Ko Kirk Yamahira:
The Threshold of Thought and Appearance

September 12 - October 10, 2026
Saturday, September 12, 4-6pm

studio e presents The Threshold of Thought and Appearance, an exhibition on display from September 12th to October 10th featuring new work from Ko Kirk Yamahira exploring spatial and structural abstraction through a meticulous subtractive process of unthreading canvas. By individually pulling each warp thread in reverse, Yamahira reconfigures the canvas. Through this process, the foundations of traditional painting are dismantled by using the canvas beyond its role as a support for painting and instead becomes the work itself. In the exhibition, a series of small works surround a large C-shaped structure at the center of the gallery. A structure which was once a two-dimensional surface, now transformed into a flexible, organic, undulating enclosure that invites viewers to step inside. Within its interior, visitors are enveloped by floating threads that create a sense of intimate cradling. The ephemeral space offers an immersive experience. Throughout the exhibition, Yamahira’s exploration of material and structure invites a deeper contemplation of how undoing can become a means of constructing new ways of seeing.
